Red face Kinda Happy W/Myself Right Now

I've become notorious, of late, for saying, 'the heck with it' when I'm out, or if someone has made something 'special' for me I shouldn't have, or if the day ends in 'y'...In other words, I've gotten lazy.

In fact, I had my own personal challenge to be eating clean during the month of June, and really have only been doing so the past week and a half.

So...no one was more surprised than me when my best friend and I went out for some drinks. The place we went has such an incredible selection of beers from all over the world..MMMM, and the food is great too. I actually ordered a Bacardi Silver Black Cherry (new LC beverage, 2 carbs, I think). I would recommend it. For variety I also had a rum n' diet coke with a lime twist. We got an order of artichoke dip with veggies instead of chips. YUM.

So, I'll have to remember this next time we go out, and while on vacation. This little low-carb splurge was just as satisfying as a high-carb one. Actually more so, since I had a nice feeling of accomplishment when I got home, no carb cravings, and no guilt. :great:

Just wanted to share...

Tara, that's the way to do it! KUDOS!!

As for cocktails, I am now known to carry my own can of Diet Lime Coke into our favorite restaurant. All I have to do is set the can on the table and the waiter immediately heads for the bar and brings me back a tall glass filled with ice and a shot of Bacardi light rum. With my own can of Coke, it takes quite a while to finish it off and it's OH so tasty!

There are so many choices that actually DO fit into this WOE that I've pretty much stuck to plan even when out - I mean, Oysters Rockefeller? OH YEAH baby briing 'em ON! Hot wings? YOU BETCHA! And that artichoke dip with veggies sounds awesome, haven't run across that one yet around here.

GOOD GOING GIRLFRIEND!!

Char

Good for you! I've FINALLY begun to do this too! We were at the Indy race a couple of weeks ago and the horseraces this week. In the suites they all serve food: buffet style and all-you-can-eat. (My husband's company schmoozes customers in these suites and I get to go with him!)

At both places I picked the things I could have and concentrated on having a good time and watching the actual races, instead of the food.
Ya know why? Because I got so tired of saying the same things you were saying "the heck with it, I'm going out", etc. Yes, I had a good time, but it's awful to have that good time marred by: cravings, guilt, and oh yeah, and extra pound or two.

So, I TOTALLY get where you are coming from. I think this means we really ARE committed to this woe and we've turned a corner with using "going out" as an excuse to go off plan. Let's keep it up!

Alcohol is not recommended for induction. During OWL, low carb adult beverages are acceptable. It is true that one's body will metabolize the alcohol in preference to burning fat, but it delays, not prevents, fat burning. The key is moderation ... 'course moderation is always a good idea when drinking alcohol.

Just as an aside...I also avoided birthday cake yesterday :great:

cre8tive...I look at this as a lifetime way of eating for me, so to tell myself that for the rest of my life I can't have a couple of drinks -- is unacceptable. To each their own

Maxibee...Yeah, it was great to feel 'in control' of things, and the feeling afterward was indescribably great.

Char...Never thought of doing that. I just had them use Diet Coke and toss a couple lime twists in it. You have gotten me addicted to the Diet Coke w/Lime, though! I have to have one a week now.

Gilley...that sounds good, but for 15 carbs I could have a Guinness!

Thanks to everyone for your words of support. It really makes a difference.
Ahhh, I love this place!
