| Hello I have not posted here in a while, I have mainly lurked. I am currently at about 228 lbs. I have hovered between that and 230 lbs since mid April. I know LC works, but I seem to have gotten into a bit of a rut food wise. I mainly do Atkins and Protein Power, but have customized it to work for me, and thus far it has worked. I have read so many things about the various spin-offs of LC dieting. South Beach intrigues me, but it sounds like a LF diet with some extra protein and less carbs. I have also looked at some LC programs where you don't count your veggies as carbs, and are allowed limited amounts each day. I have also thought about doing an induction, as I never did initially. I have recently cut my hours at work. While working, I ate out at least one, if not more, meals per day. I think being at home more will help with this; perhaps that will be all I need. Any suggestions? Robin |

| you go! And if going back to induction will help you, go for it. I have found, far as reading up on all those different diets, that it confuses me. Straight Atkins diet works for me... I would find a plan and stick with it... the grass is not always greener on the other side.

| I know how you feel! It is soooo easy to get into a food rut, and that is followed by boredom and eventually temptation. While I think most of us fall into a pattern, it is so important to mix things up a bit. If you don't have a good lo-carb cookbook, get one and start experimenting. (I really like Dana Carpenders cookbooks, but I know there are many good ones out there.) I have also read several of the other lo- and not so lo-carb diet books, and while I know of people who are successful with them, I find them too complicated and confusing. Not to mentions that most of them trigger my carb cravings!! Hang in there, and keep experimenting to find what form of locarb works for your body. Best wishes, Staci |

| Hi, Robin! I was going through the same thing, and found that doing an actual induction was just what I needed to increase my progress and get more into the low carb mind-set~ just something for you to consider. |

| In regards to what everyone is saying about the books, it reminds me of one of the lyrics I have on one of my CD's - 'the more you learn, the less you know'. It took me awhile to figure out what they meant by this but after deep thought and really contemplating, I finally understood it. I finally got it. All I had to think about were all the diet books I read over the years and how each one contradicted each other...eat high carb, eat low carb, eat full-fat, eat low fat, eat fat free, chemicals were never meant to be processed in our bodies so eat sugar, sugar is bad for you so eat artificial sweetners, exercise moderately, exercise heavy, etc etc...thus, the more you learn, the less you know...I personally think it's best to find one diet plan, read that book and follow it for one year - and then, after that year, it's not working, modify it a little or find something else that might work better for you but at least give it one year to work. | Sheyla's right. I'd like to think that Atkins is better than the other diets, but all diets take effort, and they all work if you just keep on doing them and don't give up. Pick a plan and stick to it. You're not really likely to find anything drastically better. I've tried a LOT of diets.

| This is a bit off the topic, but lends credence to the YMMV theory. . . Staci mentioned above about getting in a food rut, and getting bored and giving in to temptation. In my case, food rut + boredom = I stop eating, and shove food into my gullet just to shut up the hungries. I doubt the end result of this is any better than giving into temptation, as I probably end up in fat storage mode, since during these phases most of my calories come from the heavy cream in my half-caff. It's interesting how we have different reactions to the same issues. Stacie 222/140/140 |
