| In the book it says that you are supposed to get the majority of your carbs from veggies; however, it also says that you can either have approx. 3 cups loosely packed salad or two cups salad and one cup other veggies. If that is the amount of veggies we are supposed to eat and no more than that my carb calculations come to about 6 carbs for 3 cups lettuce. If you go the other route there are approx. 4 carbs for the lettuce and lets say I had cauliflower for my cup of other veggies that comes to about 1.5 carbs which equals 5.5 carbs. I just don't get how we are supposed to eat 10-15g carbs from veggies and salad but are only allowed those portion sizes. I hope I didn't confuse everyone. |

| Are you looking just at iceberg lettuce? There are much better choices available in terms of nutrition (and taste, though that's a personal preference). I really like the Dole spring greens & Italian green mixes. What about spinach? Shredded red cabbage? Cucumbers? Mix it up. There's a whole world out there beyond boring old iceberg (which almost always upsets my stomach, so I will admit I'm prejudiced.)

| No I very rarely use iceberg, I usually get romaine or romaine iceberg mix. |

| NRuiz, You are only supposed to use those measurements for induction(the *3* cup rule). Broccoli, cauli, green beans, zucchini and other veggies have a few more carbs and they can also be used during induction. There are some folks who say, these veggies don't have to really be *limited* during induction. But I do understand what you are saying...some days it's hard to get those 20 carbs in...I don't think an extra serving of broccoli or cucumber is going to harm you HTH Shelley

| I cannot believe I thought that it was a rule for the whole woe (all stages)!! I'm really not that stupid LOL. I should have known better, I have been low carbing for 5 1/2 months now! Thanks so much for the quick response. |

| NRuiz, You really should be adding more great LC veggies and fruit to your daily intake. It's time to *move on* to some great eating, by adding back carbs, in 5gm increments per week. Staying in induction for 5 months serves no real purpose unless you have a large amount of weight to lose, and then 5 months would still really be to long, IMO. Device yourself a new menu and post it if you want, for some folks to help you with it if need be. Good luck and let us know how you are doing Shelley

| Also don't forget that just about everything but most meats have SOME carbs - i.e., a large egg has .6, a cup of coffee or tea about .9, cheese about 1 carb per ounce (depends on type of course) etc. etc. etc. - so do yourself a favor and get a good carb counter, either online or in booklet form, and make sure of what you're actually eating - I was rather surprised at how quickly I DID get to 20 on induction, when adding up the eggs, cream, cheese, and my veggies! Some deli meats and lunch meats also have carbs so read labels very carefully. Char
