Question Is it strange I kick into ketosis immediately?

So as you all know the day of and around holidays is always hard to eat LC especially when you have no willpower like me... lol, but as of this morning I am back to my LCE.

Well here's the weird thing, I am already into trace ketosis(11 am) and I ate so much junk food yesterday ALL DAY and the day before. I am just wondering, is it normal to have already kicked into ketosis after a few hours back on LC? Has my body adjusted and begun to "need" this WOE? The only thing I can think of is that my workout in the AM this morning has kicked me into the great state of ketosis.... any input?

Yep, Lucky you! You may not have had as many carbs as you thought you did. You may have a high degree of muscle mass which would burn your glycogen stores more quickly. And definitely working out was a big help. I usually recommend that people who have a carb binge increase exercise for the next few days. Whatever the reasons for it, great to have it happen.

I was thinking this exact same question yesterday! I spent the weekend eating junk and being full out lazy. When I tested for Ketosis yesterday I was already in it what shocked me. I'm not sure why but I'm happy! And I know I Ate ALOT of junk but then again my perspective of what alot of junk is, is very different from when I began this WOE.

That's pretty quick, although I guess it may not be unusual, depending on how active you are and what you were eating just before starting low-carb.

I found that a couple of things other than carb count can increase the darkness of the strips. Perhaps they help you get into ketosis more quickly too.

1) Increased activity level or exercise. You might find your strips darker a few hours after activity more intense than usual for you.

2) Mental stimulation. Just engaging in something new. I don't know why this is, but it seems to be a persistent pattern with me. For instance, last December I indulged myself and purchased a couple of PC games and totally immersed myself in them for a few days, getting even LESS physical activity than my normal couch potato lifestyle provides. My Ketostix became much darker. I've noticed this with other stimulating event, like the onset of war last year, starting a new book, family events.

3) Caffeine. I have seen this repeatedly. When I was abstaining from products containing caffeine (I don't, anymore), if I got some caffeine through some serendipitous event, my Ketostix would be much darker later that evening. It was a very consistent pattern. Hot chocolate, coffee, and diet coke (with caffeine) all had that effect. I don't remember what the effect was with tea.

4) Simply reducing calorie intake. You might ingest less total food during a day either intentionally or just by chance. You may notice that your sticks are darker that evening even though your total carbs were HIGHER than usual. I'm not sure what is at work here, but I suspect that the body's need for additional fuel may force faster ketone mobilization. That's my lame theory.

Not to be a wet blanket, but sometimes it takes a few days for your metabolism to catch up with your food comsumption. Don't be disappointed if in three to four days your endulgence shows in the strips.

And then again...maybe not!
