| I'm a little late to this party but I wanted to add my preference to the list. I use Stevia powder which I buy in the bulk spices section of our local Henry's Marketplace. (WildOats Market in some states) It looks like it's going to be mondo expensive when you look at the price on the bin at $129.00 a pound..LOL...but It takes a very small amount. I bought $8.00 worth a few months ago and I still have alot left. It disolves much better than the stuff in the packets and once I learned how much...how little actually...to use, I really like it. I like that fact that there is nothing artificial in it as well.

| i appreciate the tip, vickie. i have some of the stevia packets, still after a long time because of the the dissolving issue, and some liquid stevia which i like ok. haven't tried the bulk powder but will keep an eye out for it. |

| I wonder what the glycemic index is on sweetfreeze. Wisdom Herbs stevia claims they are unmatched in this area. Splenda is listed at 80 glycemic index. Anyone know? klr

| Kerry, I have not seen a glycemic index number for splenda or sucralose. Assuming that your number for Splenda is correct, then I would think that the liquid sucralose products like sweetzfree, without the maltodextrin filler of Splenda, would be lower as pure sucralose has zero carbs.

| So that one carb is viscious I guess. The chart at sweet leaf has this list: Sweet leaf Fiber 1 glyc index 0 Sugar 0 70 Splenda 0 80 Equal 0 80 Sweet n Low 0 80 I found it interesting.

| That chart looks like something developed by the marketing department, without regard to facts. I checked a couple of glycemic indexes and found that the glycemic index of sugar is 58, plus or minus 1. I could find no reference to stevia or splenda on those indexes. The 1 carb in granular splenda is due solely to the filler that is used as the carrier for the sucralose.

| Thanks Henry. I wondered if the site was making themselves look better than was accurate. I think I will get some sweetfreeze and see how my blood sugar responds. Was afraid to invest in it when I saw this chart but I think it may be a good addition. Thanks again. klr

| Kerry, Sweetzfree (liquid Splenda)has no carbs, so should not affect your blood sugar. 1/4 teaspoon sweetens equal to 1 cup of sugar, so a small bottle will go a long, long way. Powdered Splenda has carbs due to the fillers to give it bulk. I quit using it a couple of years ago. For me, every little carb counts. I also use FiberFit from Netrition, which is a more dilute form of liquid Splenda with fiber added. It also should not affect your blood sugar. |

| Thanks Nita I ordered a 2oz bottle of Sweetfreeze and will add it to my arsenal. I have been using SteviaPlus but would like to try something else. Be nice if Sweetfreeze added inulin fiber or something in future. Wonder if I can buy inulin fiber and add myself...hmmmm. klr

| Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Agave Nectar. I DO realize that it's not a truly low carb product, but it is said to have a glycemic index somewhere between 11-30. How do you think this compares with splenda packets? Though I have been an Atkins follower off and on for the past seven years, lately I have been experimenting with other lifestyles (vegan/vegetarian) while still being mindful of my blood sugar issues. I know if I were looking at most of you face to face right now, you probably would be staring at me as if I had three heads. Rest assured though, still an Atkins loyalist, just trying to decide what works best for me. |

| three heads, huh? that's a pretty neat trick, sarah! ![]() there are a few threads on this, like this one - Agave Nectar??? and you know, everybody aboslutely has to find their own way. what works for me may not work for you and vice versa. |

| Sarah, I have seen too many negative comments concerning agave nectar, primarily because it is a concentrated fructose syrup, to consider it, especially since it is readily converted to fat in the liver. Here is an excerpt from an article I saw on the topic: (Note that the author was into raw foods and was writing from that perspective as well.) <SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">"My answer to the question, “Is agave nectar good for us?” would be “NO” based on my research. Here is a sample of my findings:
