Default Truvia

I have been hearing for a while that Coke is wanting to develop a new line of soft drinks using stevia as a sweetener. I have also been hearing that Dow is going to be developing this new sweetener for Coke. I was just a little leery of anything developed by Dow (chemicals).

Last week I heard that the FDA is on the verge of approving stevia to be used a sweetener. Previously it could only be marketed as a dietary supplement.

Thursday when I was shopping, I found a new sweetener called Truvia. It is manufactured by Cargill/Dow. It is a blend of stevia and erythritol. I like it better than stevia or erythritol alone.

I am thinking this may be the new natural sweetener that Coke is wanting to use in thier new naturally sweetened line of soft drinks.

Thanks for posting this. I knew that truvia was going to be marketed someday but was unaware it was out there now. One of the reasons erythritol has a low impact on blood glucose levels is that it has only .2 calories per gram as opposed to sucrose (sugar) which has 4 cal/g. Maltitol has 2.1 cal/g and xylitol has 2.4 cal/g. These last 2 are the most commonly used in things like s.f. candies and such. I think manufacturers prefer these 2 sugar alcohols because of all the polyols these 2 have the highest sweetness per gram.

Hi,

FYI, Truvia is manufactured by Cargill, not Dow. I work on PR for the sweetener - more information is available on truvia(dot)com.
