It was one year ago today that I officially took over the reins here at LCE. Can ya believe yet? While it just worked out that way, somehow, April Fool's seemed oddly appropriate as well. The financial transactions, such as they were, officially concluded January 1st.

Here we are, a year later, and I am asking myself, "What have I learned?" The answer-a lot, although often not what I expected to learn. here are some of my random observations...

• Every hat you wear feels different
• The members here appreciate the site and really want for it to succeed
• running a web server isn't as scary as it looks-most of the time
• there is more than one way to whack a spammer
• software never works they way you expect
• backups rock
• changing the web address for EVERY SINGLE page in your website means you'll get lots fewer visitors for quite a while!
• this is tougher than it looks
• vbulletin has approximately 3 kajillion options to set
• people love their smilies
• other miscellany too numerous to mention

I'd like to thank all of you that make up our little LC Home on the web, for your ongoing support and patience as I find my own way to keep this site going, and, I'm hoping, flying into the future, higher than ever. Be you old time members or lurkers for ages, I am glad you come around and help populate this place.

And our mods, who come here daily and keep the site on track and running smoothly, thank you especially. You know, there was never a split second I felt anything less than fully supported and welcomed by the team in my new role, and considering the amount of changes the site underwent, that's nothing short of extraordinary. They help keep me focused on on track, and I couldn't run this site without 'em. Nor would I ever want to try...

And Maggie...well heck...I brought Maggie on as an assistant admin when I first started, because I knew I'd need the help figuring stuff out. Throughout the year, she's continued to be my favorite brainstorming buddy and reality check, and her behind-the-scenes work and perspective has been invaluable in helping the site grow.

So I'm promoting Maggie to "Administrator." Her 3-fold pay increase fits nicely into our budget, considering the multiplication laws governing 0. (She's not quitting her day job yet. But then again, neither am I.)

All in all, I'm so glad I decided to take this on, and I'm excited to see what the future holds. Because we're just getting started,baby!

It's been a heck of a year here, and I'm looking forward to many, many more.
