I have a problem. A big one. Its one of those things that isnt necessarily lc but food in general. I havent told anyone about this, but i think im bulimic. i thought i might be able to bring it up here because im afraid to tell the people who know me. Im not sure what to do either because I hate being this way, but ive gotten so used to it that i dont know an alternative. Basically, i eat things i shouldnt, and then i feel guilty and the rest is history. Any advice would be great because i really feel helpless here.

Hi Piper. I admire you so much for coming forward, you've made a giant step in the right direction. Admitting to yourself that there's a problem is half the battle. You MUST contact your doctor tommorow. The real danger of bulimia is the erosion of you esophagus, tooth decay and your electrolytes become unbalanced which then can lead to malfunction of the heart. Bulimia is very dangerous, I can't stress that enough.

Bulimia is so much about control. It's a very difficult behavior to overcome and almost becomes a habit. Learning to take control before you eat the wrong things, that is key. If you make a choice to eat something not on your plan, or if you eat too much, learn to be strong and overcome the feeling to purge.

Please promise me that tomorrow morning you will check in with your doctor. You won't be judged or critized. Many hugs to you, Piper. I will check with you tomorrow.

Take care~
Susan

Piper,

Susan is absolutely right. You MUST seek help immediately.
Bulimia is nothing to fool around with.

Please don't "hate yourself for being this way." We ALL have things we struggle with.
ALL OF US.
You have taken the hardest step in realizing that there's even something wrong. Now take the next step and get help to stop it.
Bulimia can be deadly.
It seems innocent and harmless to many who practice it, but I assure you, it is not.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you will find the courage and strength to do what needs to be done. And please keep us posted.

Piperchick, you've taken a wonderful first step to facing your problem and even if this isn't the "right" place to post, it's certainly a "good" place to start! Any time you bring your fears out in the open, you have given yourself a gift--allowing people to help you!

It seems logical to me for you to tell your story here since most of us have issues with food. There are so many people out there who are dealing with the same thing you are, but haven't had the courage to actually say it. You have probably broken the barrier for many others and you should feel great about that.

I'm wondering if you've done a search for other support groups that would have more information about bulimia and other eating disorders? If you haven't, here's a list for you to check out: http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=bulimia Also this site looks really helpful: http://www.healthyplace.com/Communit...mia/index.html

Keep reaching out Hon and you'll be ok. Big hug to you!
Dee

Wow, Summer and Susan! We must have all hit this page at the same time! hahahah...but you two type faster than I do (well, you're younger than me!

I do hope Piperchick comes back to read our responses. Bulimia can really isolate a person and it's very encouraging when someone reaches out like she has.

thank you for your advice. I appreciate your concern, and believe me, im working on getting this problem dealt with. Its just really hard to have such hard control over yourself when you are constantly set up to fail (like at my job). Im working on getting in to see a doctor soon, thanks for listening.

Piper, please please go to your doctor and get help right away. My sister had a serious problem with bulimia and it almost cost her her life. If she hadn't seen a doctor when she did, she would have died. Don't think that it takes a very long time to get a serious illness from it because with my sister it didn't take long at all. As a teen I didn't understand what was going on so I went to the library and got books about the subject and came home and showed my mom and she made my sister an appointment to see the doctor. We thought my sister was just losing weight from exercising and cutting back on portion size. It's a disease where the person like to keep it a secret and that's a very serious problem,so thank goodness that you are at least reaching out for help here, but I encourage you to first go to a doctor and then tell a family member or a friend so that they can be their to hold you accountable and to support you. I will keep you in my prayers. Angel

Piper, I know firsthand what you are going through. I battled anorexia for 2 years, only to replace it with bulemia for 20 years. I have been "free of this beast" for 4 years now after some long and intense therapy. What a difference the therapy made on my life. Had I not got help, well, I won't go there. I was very sick. This is a link to a website that helped me understand what was going and inspired me to get help. Take care, and PM me if you need to talk with someone who knows firsthand what it's like to be controlled by that "beast."
