Kim - I had to do that 3hr glucose testing too... makes you feel like a voo doo doll! Also, good luck with the house shopping!

Summer - thanks for the thumbs up! One thing I've noticed is that my appetite has disappeared! I think it has a lot more to do with the realization that I'm an emotional eater, and now that my day is full of baby love, not only do I not eat out of boredom, because I'm certainly not bored, but also I don't need to turn to food to fill a void any more. I wish I could get the love and attention from my husband to fill that void, which I think could happen, as he begins converting to a "family man", but right now I just take it one day at a time.

As for the weight loss, I'm looking at it in ten pound increments. I've started walking with the baby, and I think that's going to help dramatically.

KD - yayyy - a possible girl??? Let us know when they give you the 99.9% sure sign. BTW - don't know if you're an ebay-er, but I bought a TON of my baby clothes there... great place to get deals. I bought one lot of 0-3 month sleepers, onesies and socks - 50 pieces in all - for $2.45 CDN (about $2 US), plus $14 for shipping. For $16, I probably could get three pairs of socks from Baby Gap... Its a great place to shop if you don't mind used, as they grow out of them so quickly! In fact, Sydney is so tall (22.5 inches at birth) that many of the sleepers I have already don't fit because they're too short.

Anyways, that's the latest. Hope everyone has a great week.

Cheers, Niki
PS - speaking of "cheers", you'd think that I'd dabble into the "spirits" finally but still haven't had a drink. Mind you, its forbidden on Induction anyways, but I would love a glass of wine... maybe at the end of my two weeks, a small bottle of bubbly to celebrate...

Niki...LOL on the EBay....I didn't get clothes there, but did win 2 auctions for formula!!

Well....just a quick update, I'm hardly online anymore with work/sleep/resting. We got confirmation on Monday that this lil lump is 100% GIRL!!! We have decided on the name Elana Marie.

Continues to look like she will be born Dec. 26/27 by C-Section...although they won't make that decision until 2 weeks prior.

Congrats Knowles!!! I know that my little girl has been a trip!! It is nice to have the frilly dresses and hair clips when their hair is long enough.

Well, my little bundle, Christian, is gonna be here in 6 weeks and 2 days. I can't wait to meet him. I have to call the hospital 2-3 days before to get the time of my surgery on November 8. I just feel so big and with the weather fluctuating all the darn time, I keep swelling. That's what I get for living in Michigan; if you blink, the weather changes! LOL

I've been MIA for a long while, so I'm late chiming in here. But just had to wish many congratulations to Niki! What a beautiful little baby! I love it when all ya'll post pictures.

Knowles - a girl!!!! How exciting!

Cowgirl - six weeks will come and go before you can even blink. Love the name Christian. It's on our list if our baby is a boy.

As for me, I'm 17 weeks along and doing great. Except I haven't exactly maintained a low carb lifestyle despite all the best intentions.

Take care everyone....

Oh Emily, I know how hard it is to maintain a LC lifestyle being preggers! Now there is only 3 weeks to go from this coming up Monday! Whee!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Now, on a sheepish note here....I have an average of a 5 pound weight gain for the entire pregnancy (oops), but I have the outlook that it WILL come off again. My hubby and I have decided that the New Year brings Induction and the LC lifestyle into full swing once again.

Best of luck to all!

Thought I'd pop in and say hi and let ya'll know I'm still alive....just very tired so not online very much.

Pregnancy is going well....have gained a total of 18 lbs. and ready to enter my 8th month. I've actually shown a loss since month 3 but the doctor isn't worried and hopes some will add up these final weeks....but I doubt it as I can barely eat anything without being full as this baby's in the way LOL.

We've had some scares. I've had 2 incidents at work that led to preterm labor and hours in the hospital trying to stop the contractions. Work now has me on an ordered 2 days off w/pay to figure out what to do with me to keep me safe (one I was attacked by a resident, one I was hit with a 65 lbs. laundry cart). There's tons of paperwork in that place so it shouldn't be that hard...at least I hope they see that.

We have our shower tomorrow and we're very excited...even my 8 year old can't wait. Then it's off to get the crib up and everything in place so we're ready. Each preterm labor scare we have makes us more and more anxious to get things in place.

Hope everyone is doing well!! Can't wait until Jan. to get back in induction and posting again. I feel so guilty posting now as I haven't done well LC'ing while pregnant.

Well, girls, he's here....Christian James was born Nov. 8 @ 9:36 a.m. kicking and screaming. He weighed 7 lbs. 2.5 oz and was 20 inches long, has light honey brown colored hair and the the darkest eyes! He is absolutely beautiful. He has his nights and days confused, so I am typing this with blurry eyes lol. Looking at him, though, makes everything that I went through Monday worth it.

Best of luck to all you LC mommies! Knowles, I am keeping you in my thoughts!

Talking Re: Pregnancy and Low Carb lifestyles

Okay, guess I should announce it here since I've changed my signature and started a new journal. I am happy to report that I am 16 weeks pregnant. Got off track with LC during the first trimester, but am trying to get back to somewhere close to LC maintenance. Have a hard time picturing me getting back to where I had set my ideal, but will try to do better. Wish me luck!

Just wanted to add that I'm also happy to say that due to LC'ing and the help and support of all the wonderful people on this website, I'm starting this pregnancy out weighing 30 pounds less than with my daughter. My doctor's happy about that, too, and even recognized the effort that it took to get there. My plan/hope is to gain no more than 30 pounds this pregnancy (gained 40 w/my daughter). Once again, wish me luck!

Hi all,

It has been a LONG time since I have posted, but there also have been a LOT of changes in my life too - not the least of which was the birth of my son, Sam, on May 14, 2004. And I just want to put out a warning to anyone thinking of going off LC when pregnant - DON'T DO IT!!!! PLEASE!!! I did, and I totally regret it. It started before I got pregnant, but wasn't so bad because I was still working out regularly and keeping it more or less in check. Then morning sickness hit, I stopped working out, I started eating more carby bland comfort foods to soothe my stomach, and rolled quickly down hill from there. I started my pregnancy at 183, in size 12-14 jeans for reference, and right before I delivered I was close to 270. Now I want to qualify that - I had terrible edema in the last month or so, and gained 9 pounds in my last WEEK of pregnancy because of it. My BP also shot up to 150/90 in that last week, from 120/80, and they broke my water and induced me at my 38 week checkup. After I delivered Sam I dropped about 35 lbs in 2 days - all that water - but that still left me VERY heavy. Heavier than I had ever been.

Skip forward to today. I teeter between 208-212 most days. I am still not eating great but I am doing my best to get back on track. I am BFing, so I can't go into ketosis. I need to drink more water too. I also have not had a TOM since, oh, end of July 2003 - that's right, 2003! That's a year and a half, ladies. Actually, that's been kinda nice, but I don't know if that is contributing to the weight I am hanging onto. I plan to wean at 1 year, barring a good chomping from my son's teeth (he's bit me twice with his bottom 2, and his top 2 will emerge any day now). Once I wean, though, I am hitting Induction with a VENGEANCE. I might even stay on it for a month, just to get back into the swing. In the meantime, I am trying my best to eliminate white flour and sugar from my diet, but that is easier said than done most days. I kick myself a lot for letting myself get to this point, but I have no choice but to lose the weight - I have a whole wardrobe of clothes I cannot wear because I simply cannot fit into them.

On the bright side, I am now back in a job where I have an internet-connected machine at my desk, so I can check the boards as much as I want, and the office where I work now has NO snack fund. I can have all the soda I want (I stick to Diet Sprite - no sugar, no caffeine), but at least there isn't a boatload of chocolate around like at my last job, and very rarely do they bring in any treats.

Help me out here, ladies! I need support big time. I think I could still lose some weight before I wean, if I just cut out the junk and drink more water, what do you think?

Cheers,
Jen
