Hey K/D - how did this glucose tests go? Did you get your results back?

cowgirl - how did your husband react to the ultrasound? I'm glad for you that there weren't twins in there, and congrats on your son! I love the name!

Well, I've started week 32, and the countdown has begun! Baby was kicking up a storm last night, which was great to experience. I wish I could go on mat leave now - can't stand being at work any more. but, there's still so much to pay for, I just can't afford to not get that full paycheque...

Trying to eat more fruits and veggies, because I'm told that if you eat more veggies in the last trimester, the baby will learn to acquire a taste for veggies. Maybe my asparagus last night was what made her do a jig!

Still can't give up the carbs right now, so today I had a sub jam-packed with veggies and turkey, plus a large milk. Breakfast was a whole-wheat carrot muffin, apple, yogurt, and 2 apricots. Healthy, but not carb-smart. Tonight is pork chops, asparagus, salad, and a tiny scoop of pasta. then frozen yogurt for dessert.

how is everyone else doing with their carbs? I just can't get into the mindset of starting to limit them now, after 7 months of free-for-all. Although, it would probably help me control my weight gain for the next two months, but my strategy is just to eat more veggies and fill up on those. My DH eats low carb, so when I'm at home its easier, but breakfast and lunch at work is tough. Any advice?

Hey Sizzling...no word on the glucose test. Not sure if they're going to call me only if something is wrong or if I should call them. Still worries me that they did one at 8 weeks.

As for the carbs....I find days I can't get enough in as when I do eat them it makes my stomach feel bloated and I have a hard time breathing. Really starting to get worried about it so it's definitely on my list of questions for my next appt.

Hi Knowle's, I live by the philosophy that "no news is good news". How long ago did they perform the glucose test? I'm pretty sure that if there was cause for concern, that they would get ahold of you ASAP. To ease your mind, you might wanna give them a call and see if the results from the lab came back yet. Remember, there is no such thing as being too worried when you are dealing with the health of your baby. Just my .02.

They drew the blood last Wednesday. I would assume the tests would have been faxed to my doc by now. If not, I'd worry about that lab!! I've thought about calling....guess it's that fear something's wrong that keeps me from doing so.

Well, I believe that the results would be in by now. If it eases your mind, give them a call. The doctor I go to will call immediately if something is wrong. In fact, when I had my blood drawn and I went back for a check-up, I asked him how my blood came back, and he said,"acceptable". I told him I wanted to hear wonderful, outstanding. He then told me that if he said that, then I have nothing to strive for. What a nut!

But, like I said, if it will ease your mind, give them a call. Good luck to you!

Unhappy Re: Pregnancy and Low Carb lifestyles

Hey ladies - just touching base.... I'm into wk 33 now, 7wks 4days to go. Feel terrible! having an awful day - my heart is racing, i'm sweating, its hard to breathe, arms feel tingly, and I just wish I was at home in bed. Every day has been like this, its really yucky. I don't know how much more I can take of this torture. just needed to vent. I may not be able to work for as long as I thought, but I was hoping for another six weeks.... don't think that's going to happen.

how's everyone else?

I called the doctor's office first thing and I played phone tag with the nurse. Basically, my cystic fibrosis test came back positive as a carrier.

Granted, this is news to me as they didn't test for CF carriers when I had my son. Now they want to test my husband....at our out of pocket cost as insurance won't cover his (test is almost $400). I hate to think that our financial issues would come into play over the health of this baby....but I also don't want to pay money for a test that will only tell me I have 1 in 4 odds of having a CF baby that I wouldn't terminate anyway.

Guess I'm just looking for some guidance...I called my mother who's employer's son happens to be a leading OB/Gyn in Illinois. He took it upon himself to question his son who stated that the CF testing has really raised some red flags and unneeded terminations due to the odds not being as high vs. the alarm/dread doctor's put in their patients.

I think I'm going to call my doctor's office tomorrow and ask that she herself call me so I can speak to her with questions. The doctor in IL said the main question to ask is...if we have this test and it comes back positive, what advice are you going to give us then? He said if what she tells me is something I wouldn't agree with, then don't have the test as the answer would be the same now.

My main issue is this is my 2nd marriage and probably the only chance my husband has to have a child of his own...so I want to do the right things by my child....yet I can't alter genetics and Mother Nature.

Knowles,

I will keep you, hubby, and your baby in my prayers. If you would not terminate (which I wouldn't do either), then I think the only reason to have the test would be if they could actually do something for the baby in utero (but that may pose risks too) or shortly after the baby is born. Just know that you will be in my prayers.

When I was pregnant w/DD, we didn't even have the AFP screening (???)(I think that's the one...oh... I can't remember the name of it (having kids reduces your brain cells )) because it is only a screening, not a diagnostic test, and there's not much they can do (although I guess they can do some stuff in utero now for spina bifida). Anyway, now that I'm over 35, I know in my next pregnancy they will push for amnio which I will not do because of the risk of miscarriage. If I'm not going to abort, then why do it... unless you are one that needs that time to prepare. But, I've heard many say that they really don't spend the time preparing... just worrying.

Okay, sorry for going on and on. Hope this helps somehow.

Saying a prayer for you right now.

Knowles,
My thoughts are with you and your hubby now. I opted out of the Quad Screen for those same reasons. If there is something wrong with my child, I will love him, no matter what. I hope all goes well for you.

Again, my thoughts are with you! Take care.....

We have decided not to have hubby tested for several reasons. After educating ourselves, calling the CF association and a long night of talking....we've decided we would not terminate this pregnancy any way so why add more stress/concern in the upcoming 6 months. It just isn't necessary or healthy for us.

I called the doctor's office to leave a message for her that we were denying the test...to which I got a return call explaining our options. I informed them I knew the options, the odds and that we would not terminate based on something that is unknown until birth..so we'll save the money until the baby is here and spend it if need be on resources if there is a problem.

We both feel very calm and content in our decision...and once the office knew that, they agreed completely with the decision for our pregnancy.

God bless,

Knowles:

I have been MIA, but just read through the posts. Its been a month now since anyone has posted. How's everyone doing?

Knowles: any progress? good news?

I've started wk 38, have 2 1/2 wks to go. Baby Sydney is already 7 lb 11 oz, with 2 wks to go. Momma's tummy is HUGE due to excess amniotic fluid, which the nurse called "Baby's Jacuzzi" so she's got lots of room to move around in there and is progressing nicely. Won't be surprised if she's 9+ pounds.

I'm home from work now, thank goodness, and I'm enjoying my lounging time, although I had a Dr.s appt today, appt was for 10am, he saw me at 11:35am - I was pretty annoyed.

My weight gain has stabilized, I actually lost 2 pounds from my last appt, plus baby gained 2 pounds, so that was good news, seeing as though my total weight gain to date is 87 pounds.

Otherwise, everything is healthy - baby's heartbeat is good, my blood pressure is fine, no Group B Strep found which is great, glucose and protein are normal, so I can't complain. The Braxton Hicks contractions are getting more intense, but not regular, so I know its just the uterus "practicing". I watch "A Baby's Story" and "Life's Birth Stories" every day now, to watch what other women go through, and prep. We didn't do a Prenatal Cl**** but I bought these videos called "Labour of Love" which taught us breathing techniques and taught the coach massage techniques. My DH will be there, plus I have two girlfriends who will be there to relieve DH and be backup. My biggest complaint has been the weight of my tummy, and trying to turn over while I sleep.

The next few weeks, I'm trying to get the carbs down, so that I can get back on track once baby is here. No more excuses!

Will let you know once baby comes, and will have to record my birth story for you all.

Hope all is well, thinking of you, and can't wait to hear about all your babies!

Hugs, Niki

Hey all,
Sorry I've been "missing in action" for so long... been enjoying my *babymoon*!
Raisha is almost 4 months old now! Can you believe that??? And she is HUGE!
She is already over 15 pounds and ~25 inches long. :o
Obviously, the nursing is going very well.

Nikki, you are just beautiful! I will be thinking and praying about your delivery -- I hope everything goes well! Let us know as soon as you can get to a computer.

Knowles, you and your dh were very wise in your decision; those tests OFTEN give *false positives* so I will be praying that this is the case for you. Keep your chin up and enjoy this pregnancy! I truly wish you the best.

Good luck to all of you here. I am going to REALLY try to check in more regularly. I have definitely got my hands full with 3 girls, but I am loving every minute of it.
Happy motherhood to you all!
Much love,

Hello all. Everything is going great for us. We found out last week that we are having a boy. Mu husband is so excited and he walks around with his chest stuck out saying "I'm the Man". I'm 23 weeks along and I've gained almost 20 pounds, I'm trying really hard to keep things under control. The baby is moving alot and responding to outside sounds now. After waiting all of these years, I can truly saw that this is the best experience that I have ever had. Everyday something new happens. I wish all of you other pregnant mommies the best. Angel

Hi Angel, I, too, being 23 weeks along, have gained roughly 20 pounds, got a lecture today from my OBGYN lol. But, he said that is what he is there for. They are doing a GTT in 4 weeks (yuk).

I, too, am having a boy. I dunno if DH walk around like a rooster in a henhouse, but I know that we cannot wait to meet our son. Very active, especially when it is quiet around the house, and after mealtimes. I swear that he is his daddy's boy!

My daughter got to go to the doctor with us today, and she got to hear the baby's heartbeat, and she thought that that was all good. She was like,"it's soooo fast!" It was so neat to see her face light up.

Well, enough of my ramblings lol. Summer, it is good to see that you are back in short bursts, but I know how babies keep you hopping. Good luck and healthy pregnancies to all!
