Sharron,

Thanks for sending me here. I may try the SP again. I've read both her books and did well on her plan for a while but I just got out of the habit of following. I know during the time I felt good, but I feel good now especially incorporating the ACV. I'll give it a try again.

HI, all,

I've been reading this thread with interest. I've noticed that adrenal burnout is a hot topic on the health bookshelf at my local Borders. I've read a book called "Tired of Being Tired" by Jesse Lynn Hanley on that topic. The co-author, Nancy Deville, was Schwarzbein's coauthor on SPI.

The Tired book recommends a Schwarzbein-type diet, avoiding over-exercising, sleeping more, giving up stimulants, and generally taking care of one's spirit. I scored low on their burnout questionnaire - it seems to be addressed to type-A over achievers who burn the candle at both ends and take a blowtorch to the middle.

This book, or other similar ones, might be worth looking into. I would mail my copy to any of you if you are interested.

What a generous offer Alice! :great:

I'm having trouble finding any minutes to read the book I have now though :o (SPI)

Gotcha, Sharron. So many books, so little time.

This whole topic sort of overlaps with our Schwarzbein discussion. I'll be looking into the exercise question for you over there, ok?

Alice, I don't think I fit the type A personality, however I sometimes have to function that way simply because of the responsibilities of life! In my heart I'm not an A

It is funny how this discussion is overlapping the other one, eh? I get confused when I want to go look for info and not sure which thread it is in

I'm indexing right now. Maybe I'll get to do some reading next week. yea right!

Hi, Sharron,

I have lots to say on this topic, but life is intervening right now. We leave tomorrow for a long weekend camping trip with homeschoolers from all over Illinois. We have a meeting on Saturday afternoon, for which I am bringing children's activities. I have to put my brain power into that.

I'm not a Type A either, but you see I have to act like one sometimes, just like you.

I think the Tired book would be stronger if it was acknowledging all kinds of stress, not just the trendy driven career type of stress. Maybe the publisher thought this way would sell more books.

Talk more after the weekend.

Alice

Dh and I were talking last night. I've been struggling with some scheduling issues with the new curriculum we are using and trying to fit other things in as well. What came out of our discussion was just how bad my situation really is with the adrenal fatigue. I knew I was bad off, but I didn't realize how profoundly it is influencing my life. I'm very eager to get to the ND...

I'm going to try to pull out my SP book and get some reading done during school time this morning if subjects allow it

Sharron - Sounds like you really need to put yourself first for awhile. Take time for lots of things - reading, prayer, quiet time/meditation, gentle exercise, sleep - fun and relaxation too. It's hard to fit it all in, but with adrenal exhaustion it's essential or else we'll just fall apart and be no good to anybody.

My adrenal issues are moderate (on the quiz I scored moderate for symptoms, low for demands on my body, and pretty good for taking care (I can't remember what they called the last thing.)). I'm putting my efforts now into sleeping more and better. So far, it's working!

I hope this indexing thing you've been doing means the cookbook work is coming to an end. I so admire you for being able to write cookbooks. I thought about writing out directions for some of my knitting designs at one time - I just couldn't face it. I think good technical writing is very difficult.

Sounds like your dh is a great guy! I'm lucky that way too - mine always supports me whatever I decide to do. You may need to re-structure your whole life with definite limits on what you'll do beyond taking care of yourself and your family. I've done that, and it feels so good.

Well, this has been quite a lecture - hope I don't sound like a nag. Take care, Sharron, from one homeschooling mom to another.

Alice, I didn't think you were nagging me, rather just showing concern, and I appreciate it! And... yes! I'm done with the book!!! My dh is a peach

Actually, I scored "moderate" on their test, too. I just know I've had the actual medical tests done and shown adrenal exhaustion. I don't think I can do much more restructuring of my schedule, though I do have a friend who is willing to shop for me.

I'm also wondering if there is some connection between migraine and adrenal fatigue. It was brought to my attention last night ("Sharron, do you have a migraine??") that I've actually had a migraine for over a week and didn't realize it! My yoga stretching was keeping the pain at bay, but I was having all of the other symptoms. I'm taking Tylenol and feeling a bit better now. I gotta get to the doctor! :o

Sharron, that's really interesting. Ya know, I've never read in any of these adrenal books or any lit. on migraines that the two might be related (at least that my poor brain can remember). But you know I've had migraines since age 20. I do know that adrenal function and hypoglycemia are frequently found in the same individuals, and that many migraineurs tend to have blood sugar regulation problems hypoglycemic. Interesting......

Bren, I've thought of you a lot the last couple of days, wondering if you gravitated towards the Zone because of the adrenal/migraine/hypoglycemic connection.

I think both those links mention migraine with adrenal fatigue. Those were my search terms anyway...

I glanced at the first link you posted Sharron. VERY interesting. I don't have time right now to look at it in depth, but am going to digest it completely later. On a cursory glance, I think I am falling in the thyroid category. Thanks for posting that!!!!!!

This is kind of interesting. I had the title to an article stuck in my head -- I knew not from whence it was! I just Googled the title, and that is the link above. It references migraines as associated with excess PGE1 production, which is associated with excess seed oils. Would that be too many nuts or just seeds??

The other thing I thought interesting was that Crohns is associated with a deficiency in GLA (Evening Primrose.)

I know this isn't directly related to this topic, but we were talking about migraines, so I thought I'd stick it in here.

My migraines, since changing my diet 3 years ago, are 90% or more related to my neck injury -- they had gotten so bad before that I spent more time than not incapacitated by them. Now, whenever my neck gets out of whack, then I get a migraine -- I've only had 3 in 4 years, and those in the last year or so. I'm sure all these other things might be factors (stress, etc.) but the biggest factor this time is that I hurt my neck on the 17th and didn't go to the chiropractor right away. I tried to "nurse" it myself. Didn't work!

Barb, I thought that was interesting too. According to the woman to woman site, I fit the adrenal type perfectly. According to this one -- I'm all over the place!!!
