Default Inflammatory Breast Cancer

I saw an extremely interesting video from the Snopes site that is an eye-opener about Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC).

IBC does not manifest itself in a lump, cannot be detected on a mammogram or with breast exams. It is a fast-growing, ferocious form of cancer and every woman needs to know the signs of it. Many doctors have no idea what it is, do not recognize the symptoms.

Here is the link:

http://www.snopes.com/medical/disease/ibc.asp

My brother's first wife died of this. She fought it for 2 years, but it took her anyway. She waited too long for treatment, and part of it was her doctor's fault. I still miss her, too, and that was 20 years ago. Treatments have improved, and with early detection, chances are better than they were when she was diagnosed.

Please take the time to look at this. If you have young daughters, watch the video with them, too. It tells of a 16 year old girl who died from IBC because she was embarrassed to tell her mother about changes in her breasts. So if your girls are blossoming, let them know to NEVER be embarrassed to tell you about any unusual changes in their bodies. Please.

Nita, I saw this on my home page, but didn't check it out yet. But, I will. My DD is only 8 and I've already had to tell her what a mastectomy is and about mammograms. Kinda scary for a girl who is just now beginning to wear a "bra".

Our secretary at work is home recovering as we speak. She had a mastectomy last week.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this article, Nita. I was unaware of this type of breast cancer.
