| Has anyone ever had a uterine ablation? I just found out I have uterine hypertrophy (my uterus is twice the size it should be - (thanks kids! LOL) ) and is probably the cause of my irregular and heavy TOMs. My options are 1) going on the pill, 2) an IUD, 3) a uterine ablation, 4) a hysterectomy or 5) living with it. Right now I'm choosing 5 until I do further research. I'm wondering about the ablation, though... since doing this may cause me to not have TOM anymore. (VERY tempting!) But what is it like? Painful? Long recovery? I plan to go see my Dr. again soon, just wanted to have done my research and go in armed with questions so I can make an informed decision. Any insight you have is much appreciated. Thanks!

| I had that procedure done about 5 years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done. I'm going to PM you now.

| Mada, my co-worker just had this procedure in May because of the some of the same reasons. It has worked wonders for her! Was performed out-patient and she returned to work after the weekend. |

| This is one of our top procedures. It's simple, it's fast, recovery time is virtually about one day(the day of the procedure you'll need to rest/relax; no cooking, cleaning or child care/no driving) You may need a mild pain medication for some cramping like discomfort...some women do and some do not; some tell us extra strength tylenol was plenty. As far as TOM...it's different for each woman, but as a general rule... if you bleed, it is usually a very light flow and only for a day or two. I would encourage you to ask you physician for more info/risks/benefits of the procedure. He or she is the one that can best answer your questions really. good luck with your decision.... be well. | Thanks so much ladies, for all of the information. It really helps to have first-hand accounts in addition to all of the medical details behind the procedure. I appreciate you all taking the time to help me.

| Hey Mada...see I'm a little late on this one....but I had an ablation a few years back. It worked wonders for me for about a year. I had a condition caled adenomyosis, which is basicaaly endometriosis confined within the uterine wall. That's why my ablation only helped for about a year and then I had to have a hysterectomy. The ablation is a very simple procedure which I feel is definitely worth having to see if it would help you. Good luck with you decision

| I'm also a little late on answering this. I had it two years ago. The procedure was out patient and I was back to work in two days. It takes me a little longer because I have bad reactions to the anestetic. Also, I still have my period. It comes every 22 days and lasts for 7 days. It is much lighter than what I had before, so I can't complain. I am going to choose your answer 5 for how I deal with my issue as well. Otherwise I seem to have a surgery every other year. And having a hysterectomy is not my idea of a good solution, but as you know it is all personal choice!
