Default Amenorrhea

Has anyone else experienced this since going to low carb? I haven't ruled out pregnancy , but I don't "feel" pregnant. In fact I have all my normal pms symptoms: painful breasts, nausea, headaches...but no menses. I am about 8 days late -- and I am never late.

So, anyone else?

that's normally not a side effect of lc. dietary changes usually don't cause this unless you pretty much quit eating from my understanding - usual disclaimer applies- i ain't a doc!

i'd take a pregnancy test. (and some of the pms symtoms you mention are consistent with early stages of prenancy as well - at least, i experienced some of them in my pregnancy.)

You could be pregnant, or just late. It happens to most women at one time or another, just late enough to cause a scare. I'm with Dixie, take a test and put your mind at ease. It's better to know one way or another than to worry & wonder.

BTW, your periods usually don't stop due to diet unless you are starving or not getting enough fat in your diet. Eating a good, healthy low carb diet shouldn't affect you that way. So, I'd look elsewhere.

Actually, I was experiencing irregular periods, and low-carbing seemed to get me back on track. For some, low-carb seems to increase fertility by doing this very thing. I had a surprise baby (my 4th child) back in 2004. I took a pregnancy test just to confirm that I was late, not pregnant....but I WAS pregnant. Total shock for me, but it's all good. Can't imagine life with out my 4yo "Darth Clarissa" :lol

I'd take a test, I think.

Lol...well -- I guess I can forego the amenorrhea thread and start reading the pregnancy one! To my intense suprise the test was positive -- my dh wasn't surprised, though. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Ah..another surprise baby. Oh, boy, I am going to have to be careful. One surprise baby (number 4!) was enough, although she is a joy. Congratulations!

I ate a modified low-carb diet (about 100 grams per day) throughout my pregnancy--mostly allowing myself milk, fruit, and some potatoes for the potassium. It wasn't to lose, though--don't try to do that while you're pregnant! I just wanted to maintain my healthy lifestyle.
