| >>I ate a modified low-carb diet (about 100 grams per day) throughout my pregnancy--mostly allowing myself milk, fruit, and some potatoes for the potassium. It wasn't to lose, though--don't try to do that while you're pregnant! I just wanted to maintain my healthy lifestyle...LCKaren (thanks for all the well wishes from the other thread, ladies) I have sort of put lc on the back burner now as nothing but fruit or popscicles sound good right now. My mil brought me three boxes of crackers so I have been munching on those a little. I think I am going to buy a carton of heavy cream (for the extra fat) and some frozen fruit and just make myself some smoothies and see it if that doesn't work -- I hate to give up such a healthy way of eating, but I know that just keeping something in my body is the important thing now. I also think I could do cheesesticks and hard-boild eggs. The biggest problem is thinking of food to feed my family...blech...can't they just eat crackers too? ![]() I also skipped taekwondo yesterday morning -- I think I'm something of an addict because I already feel "flabby" -- and hope I can make it Monday, but since walking out to the shed did me in I doubt a round-kick/spin back-kick is doable. What foods and/or activities did you guys find helped you through the nausea? Did you have any trouble getting back into the swing of lc-ing? |

| Morning (or all day) sickness has never been a problem for me, so I don't have any suggestions to offer. Hang in there...

| Missbee, I can only offer you sympathy. My last pregnancy was WAY before LC for me ... indeed, it was way before I got fat. LOL! I was sick all the time for the first 4 months. All day, every day. Sometimes just the smell of certain foods would make me barf. Then, things turned around and for the rest of my pregnancy I felt better than I had in my whole life. I can only advise that you eat what you can and make the best choices you can ... which seems to be exactly what you are doing. Hope you'll feel better soon!

| i'm with maggie-just do what you can. it's been a while for me (baby is about to turn 19!), but as i recall, yep, morning sickness was misnamed! i also lost mine in the second trimester. and that was pre-lc for me, too. the only article we have on preganancy and lcing is here - What To Do With the Pregnant Low-Carber... | LowCarbEating personally, i was diagnosed w/gestational diabetes and could have benefited from some carb conciousness during my pregnancy, but it didn't happen. i paid the price with 75 pounds left over after baby. but really, that's got to take an absoulte back seat to just getting through this time and trying to get yourself some nutrition as best you can, just like you are doing now. hang in there! it will get easier...

| Missbee, try ginger for your morning sickness. Wish I'd known about it - I suffered for 5 months with each of my 3 pregnancies. My daughter had it bad with her baby - she got triple ginger cookies and kept one or two next to the bed to nibble on before she got up, just so she could function. I use ginger capsules to prevent motion sickness, works much better than any meds, without the drowsiness. It's exactly what you'd put in your gingerbread, only in capsule form. And ginger ale works, too. No side effects, either. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

| I haven't heard of Vernor's, Maggie -- what is it? -- I would be willing to try anything that doesn't taste like black-eyed peas! : D Gingersnaps sound like a good idea, too. Thanks, everyone.

| Oh, it's a really, really, good (but I knew it was regional) ginger ale. We used to get it at the big 10 party stores in Ann Arbor when we went to visit DH#3's mom. Wikipedia currently says: "Vernors was not mass distributed nationally until the late 1980s. Previously the drink was primarily distributed only within a few hundred miles of Detroit, with particular popularity in Michigan, Western New York, Ohio, Chicago, and Southern Ontario, but it can now be found throughout the United States. It is also popular in Florida, which has large numbers of retired Metro Detroiters[citation needed], and was even sporadically seen for sale there as early as the 1960s — again, due to the presence of northerners migrating to the state after the Second World War. Vernors is available throughout Florida via Publix Super Markets." May not have yet found it to your neck of the woods. If you ever see it, however, it is worth a try. Very tasty. Seems much more "gingery" than most brands I've tasted.

| Oh, I see! Real ginger-ale is hard to find -- most of them are ginger flavored which, of course, isn't the same thing. I did find a good brand once, but can't remember what is was. Lol, about Detroiters moving to Florida, my grandparents and an (unrelated to them) uncle did so.

| When I was pregnant, I joined a group at Yahoo groups called "Pregnant Atkids"--lots of support there. I gained about 25 pounds with my pregnancy and lost it within 4 month. I continued eating controlled carbs, but not strict weight-loss levels for a while while I was nursing, too. After I lost the baby weight, I lost ANOTHER 10 pounds. I can't use the baby (who is now 4) or the pregnancy as an excuse for gaining back 60 pounds. I did that myself. :( So, to answer your question, because I was consciously sticking as closely as possible to my lc lifestyle (about 100 grams per day), I was able to pick it back up easily after the baby was born.

| Oh, Vernors is excellent! We used to get it in Ohio all the time, one of our favorite soft drinks. Now we can find it in Texas, but not locally. We have to drive at least 80 miles to find it. Sadly, the diet is made with aspartame, but for the occasional treat, I'll drink it. BTW, Missbee, a good way to get ginger into you is to put it in a OMM, with a bit of cinnamon. And if eating an entire OMM doesn't agree with you, cut it up and keep it in the fridge to nibble on during the day. Let us know if any of our suggestions help.

| What is an OMM? I've tried to sort it out and the best I can figure is Orange Marmalade Muffin -- which sounds pretty good, actually.
