Please help!! I began taking the antibiotic Biaxin on Friday, and asked my doctor if it would affect the birth control pill Mircette that I have been taking for 6 years. He said to use a backup method to be safe.

Well, today, my fiance and I "got busy" and I forgot I was on antibiotics until after!! Now I am freaking out!!

    Any advice?

Nicolle, when you take an antibiotic it can and in some instances does interfere with the effectiveness of the pill. We inform our patients of such on our surgical consent forms, in the event she is prescribed an antibiotic post-op.

Time will tell, and just remember to use protection for the duration of the antibiotic therapy. I would advise you to contact your doctor's office or pharmacy where you got your prescription, for instructions on how long you should continue to use other protection, once you've taken all of the antibiotics.

    Take care

I know the medical information associated with this, so does anyone have any personal experiences like this? That is what I'm really looking for.

Oh yeah!! many moons ago before I had the child and got fixed, and yes I took antibiotics and did the nasty and lucked out but, let me stress lucked out,MAKE SURE you don't do it again,if you absolutely don't want to get preggers, and pray to the gods of safe sex until you get your monthly.Keep us posted , and good luck be with you as it was for me with as many foolish things that I did when I was young and bullet proof.
