Summer, DES is a synthetic hormone that was given to pregnant women in the 1950-1970's to prevent miscarriage (it didn't.) What it did do was wreak havoc in the reproductive systems of the female babies. This was discovered when teenage girls started to develop vaginal and cervical cancers that were otherwise rare. If you are lucky enough not to develop the cancer, you still end up with a lot of abnormalities in the vaginal lining and more likely than not, a severely mis-shapen uterus. DES daughters have a lot of reproductive problems because of this. Esther

DES sons often have severly impacted fertility as well. And yes, I'm a DES daughter by distance, as it prescribed by my mother's doctor for a termination she had the year previous to getting pregnant with me. And of course you all know that I'm IVF bound. Dryad, still waiting for her gyne appointment, but not hopefull

Dryad is absolutely correct that there is more and more evidence that the DES sons are impacted as well. My boo boo for neglecting to mention that. At the time they discovered that I was a DES daughter (age 12, I'm 41 now) they thought only the girls were affected. We now know differently. What really ticks me off is that by the time I was exposed, they knew that DES was a useless drug but they kept marketing it anyway. Dryad, I've been keeping my fingers crossed for you, hoping that your appoinment comes through. Esther
