Niki, I feel the same way its not a nice choice to make either way. This time I have not had alot of weight gain, but with the way Im eating, its coming! I dont know if this is your first or not but I can tell you it is no fun leaving the hospital looking like you did when you went in. Im trying very hard to go whole grain on the things Im eating. Im eating alot more bread and crackers, but I try to make sure they are the whole wheat ones. Ive been so sick carb are the only thing that seem to make me feel better.
In the big scheme of things though Im just trying to enjoy my pregnancy and not stress about the weight. Its just part of pregnancy, and since I know how to take it off now (thanks to Dr. A) I will just have to work on it afterward.
Good luck.

Hi Niki!

I'm having trouble staying on the straight and narrow also. What is it about pregnancy that makes you want to eat constantly and then somehow justify it to yourself?! I've been too scared to get on the scales lately given what I've been eating lately!!

I agree with Leasa that it's certainly no fun to leave the hospital looking the same as when you went in. I found it amazing how little weight and fat was lost after giving birth!!! I still looked very pregnant afterwards.

I do think it is very important to keep an eye on the amount of weight gained during your pregnancy. Yes it is natural to gain a bit of weight, but you really should be careful of any excess weight gain. The baby doesn't need it and in my experience, it doesn't come off easily and you will certainly regret it!!!! After the birth with your hormones raging you can get pretty sensitive and it can be really depressing if you have put on too much weight. Also it could impact your health and the ease of your labour (my excess weight gain during my first pregnancy resulted in very high blood pressure and an induced labour). Not to mention the lack of energy after the birth - and you certainly need that after the little one arrives :-) So it's really not just an image issue - it's a health issue as well.

Certainly, don't stress over your weight gain, but don't be too indulgent and easy on yourself either!!! Try to make healthy choices and keep up the exercise! (My goodness, I feel like I'm lecturing myself!!! ... if only I'd listen to myself - I'd do a lot better if that were the case!).

Sorry if it seems like one of those people who have to give you advice (everyone thinks they are an expert as far as pregnancy goes don't they?) ... I just see a lot of myself in your posts!!!

Now will someone please tell me the same thing so that I might take notice. I'm sure the 3 chocolate bars and packet of chips I had today where not in any way necessary!!!

Good health to all expectant Mums!!!

P.S. Goodeats, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I have been thinking about you and have been unsure how to reply. I'm sure your longed-for baby will not be far off! Thank you for starting this thread!!

Hi everyone.... just checking in to see how everyone is doing... getting back into exercising this week, which is promising. If I can't stop eating, at least I'm going to try to control the weight gain with exercise. The first tri is almost over, so my energy should be coming back soon.

We just booked a two week trip in Mayan Riviera, Mexico for April. I can't wait! Another motivator to try to keep on track, although I've already blown it today - i was just soooo hungry! Oh well, carbless dinner and off to bed, and I'll survive another day.

Hope everyone is well... back to 179 today, so hopefully I won't gain my routine 2 pounds this week. Later all - have a nice weekend!

Hi ladies,

I was on the LCE boards a lot in 2002, not so much last year (lots of RL stuff), and last September we found out that I'm pregnant. As of last week I am 5 months along. I was 29 lbs up from my goal weight when I got pregnant, because I had fallen off the wagon, and already I have put on too much weight. I have given into cravings, I had stopped tracking my food intake a long time ago, and I've had enough. So I found a food tracker for my Palm handheld (I don't have internet at my desk at work, I have to go to a separate computer), and I am starting to track my food intake. I am also going to start walking again (since the serious weightlifting I did pre-preg is now a no-no). I want to keep my calories around 2000 (plenty now that I am more sedentary and not lifting weights), and my carbs around 100g. I am making a real effort to cut out the sugar and white flour again. At this point, if I can just maintain where I am right now, for the rest of my pregnancy, I think I will be OK. I also plan to breastfeed, which I hear really helps with the postpartum weight loss, and since it will be summer, maybe I can take some walks in the evening during my maternity leave. At any rate, wish me luck - one day I will get back into my size 10 jeans - but hey, if I can get into the size 14 or 12 jeans I have before the end of 2004 that will be nice too!

Cheers,
jraudio

Hey Jr!

It's SO GOOD to see you posting again!
I was wondering how things were going with you.
We have really missed you here...

I am now 32.5 weeks so I'm in the *end zone*!
Can't wait to meet this little girl who has made my bladder a trampoline! LOL!

Keep posting,

Summer

Hey Summer,

I dunno, I think I am hatching a linebacker in my abdomen. Sometimes he shifts his weight and presses so hard on my bladder it's unbelievable. Most of the time he just kicks a lot, and seems to have hiccups frequently.

I still kick myself for going so far off plan last year, I know there were some mitigating circumstances, but still - I know better. I hope that by the end of this year, I am back on track and heading back down toward my goal weight.

Hope everyone is doing well...

cheers,
JRJ

checking in after many many months away from the boards =)

my plans to remain lc throughout pregnancy fell by the wayside around 4 months when i developed a nasty aversion to meat and the smell of it cooking. so i gradually switched over to my previous carby diet. by 8 months i had only gained about 25 lbs, so the carbs werent too bad on me. at 8 months i suddenly developed pre-eclampsia and my bp skyrocketed really fast and i ended up with a cesarean. colbey was born 12-21-03 at 8lb 2oz and 20" long, the biggest preemie the NICU had, and quite good sized for being a month early! he spent 3 weeks in the NICU due to respiratory difficulties from prematurity and has been home now for a month and is doing great.

my SO and i are returning to lc in the next few weeks so ill be back on the boards when time allows =)

Hey JR - congrats! Please post often, as I can use the encouragement, or at least its good to know there's preggies out there like us that are sub-consciously trying, but not to the degree we used to or would like.

I think about the last two years I didn't touch anything with wheat in it, and now my body can't get enough, so I'm not going to stress about it.

Carbo - I am the same way with meat - the thought of meat just doesn't turn my crank at all like it did before being pregnant. Congrats on a healthy boy and only gaining 25 pounds! Nothing wrong with that!

Summer - wow, you're close! 8 wks and counting! What number is this (1st kid, 2nd, etc.) - I can't remember (baby brain drain). Must be exciting! If I'm excited at 14 wks, you must be triple that! Anyways, keep us posted on the final stretch.

Well, as for me, I'm good, feeling fine, fighting a cold but can't complain. Stopped eating brownies every day, which should help stop the ever-expanding bootie. I'm in wk 14 and although all my clothes are tight, I'm waiting for a big lot of mat. clothes I bought off a girl on ebay, so that should supplement my new wardrobe nicely.

food has still been primarily carbs, but I think more water and exercise has helped me maintain. Except for the weekend, when I made Pilsbury Cinnamon Rolls and ate 4 out of 5 of them (isn't that what dentists prefer?) Oh well.

have a great day everyone! will touch base soon.

LOL, Niki!

You're doing just fine, girl. I LOVE your attitude and your spunk!

Yes, I'm getting SO excited. This is baby girl number THREE for me! I can't believe how close I am now... for a while there it seemed like the pregnancy was just ddrrraaggginng.
Now, I'm worried I won't get all my *nesting* done in time!

Erin, SO good to see you posting again! And congratulations on your wonderful news!
Goodness, he WAS a big boy, huh???
You know what though? My second daughter weighed 8 lbs. 12 oz. and I think bigger babies are *easier* as newborns... is he sleeping well?

Keep up the good work, all!
Summer

Hey Brightlady, the only pics I have of our son are the ultrasound pics 4 more months till I meet the little guy face to face

Yesterday was a bad eating day... I had forgotten that I had ordered Girl Scout cookies last month, and they came in yesterday, and I had WAY too many. Hopefully today will be better. My menus are fine till I give into temptations like that :P

Hang in there, everyone

OH NOOOOOO!!!!!

The Girl Scout Cookies are IN???
Aaccckkkkk!!!

I ordered, too -- thinking they wouldn't be in for a couple more weeks... I just know that lady is gonna knock on my door today.

Ok, I AM GOING TO PUT THEM IN THE FREEZER AND PRETEND THEY ARE NOT THERE.
I HAVE to; I don't have a choice.
My blood glucose levels are getting increasingly sensitive and I only have 7 weeks to go. I have done so well... I AM NOT GOING ON MEDS!!!! (sorry; kinda talking to myself here)

Ya, my eating this weekend was poor - even after I sent the rest of the cookies to work with DH - and I took my glucose test at the OB yesterday. I am praying that my blood sugar levels are not high. And I am going to try REALLY hard to stick to 2000 cals / 100g good carbs for the remainder of this pregnancy. I decided to cut out the OJ again and go back to taking my Vitamin C pill instead, and drink more water - at least 2L a day (but not much more, otherwise I will never leave the bathroom!). Good news is that the doc found the baby's heartbeat right away yesterday and said it sounded good. We also put a registration deposit down at a day care center near my work, to reserve a space for our son when my maternity leave ends. They have an open-door policy for parents, so I can stop by at lunchtime and nurse him, which I plan to do.

OK, I'll report more tomorrow, hopefully I will be closer to my carb and calorie count
