I Made My Family Proud! April Philpot

My story starts quite a way back, during my pregnancy with my 1st child I ballooned up pretty big and weighed around 175lbs after he was born. I was staying with my mother and she put me on a low fat diet and extensive exercise program, with her leading the way I did loose weight and got down to a pleasing 115lbs. Needless to say when my husband was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada I went back up in weight. It wasn't easy to stick to a low fat diet with a family and it was even harder to stick with the exercise program in a place that isn't too safe to be out alone, especially after dark.

Then came the pregnancy and birth of my 2nd child and I was back up to where I was after my 1st child. Along came 3 miscarriages, a move back to Oklahoma and then our 3rd child. I did fairly well during my pregnancy but still weighed around 185lbs after he was born. In Feb of 1996 we were rear-ended by a "big Company" delivery driver I had 2 surgeries due to the accident which then made exercise even harder and before you knew it I was at a whopping 230lbs. Even though I knew I was big, I never really accepted how BIG.

About a year ago my husband was starting to have problems with his blood pressure and cholesterol and I starting researching what I could do to help him. A friend of mine sent home a picture with my son that she had taken at school and my son actually said that it was a scary picture of me. Needless to say that was enough for me to really be motivated: nothing like the brutal honesty of a child and the realization that you are probably an embarrassment to them because of how you look.

That is how it all started, I put US on a low carb diet mostly for him (but with the mind set that I didn't want my husband or my children to be embarrassed of me any more). I found it very simple to stick to and results were quick to follow. I felt better, had more energy, my skin cleared up, I was sick less and started loosing the pounds.

After awhile I began to exercise (because I was finally able to), I hit a stall at around 69.5 lbs lost and my husband purchased me a 2 yr membership to a local ladies-only gym. Since that date I have lost another 3.5lbs, so I seemed to have broken my stall. I have lost an additional 9.25 inches, in addition to what I had lost before the gym membership, from various places and feel even better about my self. I have dropped from plus sizes all the way down to mostly mediums and have a great outlook for the future.

My husband and kids are so proud of me and often take my before picture (that I carry for motivation and cheating deterant) out of my purse to show any body and every body what mom has accomplished.

Sincerely,
April Philpot (AKA....Luv2Camp)
