Weight-by-Date-Pro Weightloss Tracking Software Review
I had been searching for something to help me track carbs. I wanted something cute. Pretty to look at. And easy to use. What I ended up with is Weight-By-Date Pro. Weight-By-Date Pro is a cute little program that helps you track just about anything and everything you may want to track for your weight-management plan. You can track as much or as little as you like. It's easy to use, has a pretty user interface, and you can change the color scheme. (I chose pinks for mine. I am a girl.)
Of course, the main feature, as denoted in the software name, is a projected goal date. I have mixed feelings about the feature, but can't deny it gets your attention.
The program calculates, based on your personal progress, when you can expect to drop the poundage.
Yes, it's good for not getting a case of carb-creep. That end-by date changes, you notice! But even though I know we all have a tendency to do it, focusing too much on the calendar instead of the journey is not a good idea. I'd be a hypocrite if I said I never did it myself. But I don't recommend getting a case of how-long-is-it-gonna-be-itis. Since if you want this to work lifetime, you change your habits lifetime. On the other hand, perhaps this helps keep us focused, and remembering that the little choices do add up? Just make sure you're using it the right way, I guess is what I'm saying.
Of courxe, there are places to track eating (and a good-sized nutritional dictionary, which you can add to) and save your own foods and recipe data There were places to track exercise, or figure out your requred calorie intake at different activiity levels or whatever. BMI charts, Measurement Tracking, Progress Charts. All the basics and then some. Even links to various websites within the program, where you can edit the desitinations. The program is very customizable.
If you're a tracker, you can track, log, journal, calculate and graph just about every thing you can think of.
Silly, but actually my favorite feature: The little "Reward" song. That's right. See, you enter your weights into a calendar for all the tracking, etc. But you can set it to pop up a picture and play a little reward song when you've lost whatever amount of weight you've set it for. I had my reward pop up with every pound and first, and then I upped it to any loss at all. It feels good to see that "reward" screen come up.
Probably the most valuable thing I got from this, though, was a sense that I was still progressing even when things started feeling "slow" to me. And I'm sure as all get out if you stay in it for the long haul, you're going to have your own version of the slow-down freak out, too. However, seeing my measurements change and how many inches total I'd lost, seeing my BMI had gone down from High Health Risk to Moderate to Low...that's good reinforcement! To be reminded of the long haul, the big picture, is sometimes all it takes. Even though I might not have felt like I was making any progress that day, I could remember that I was making terrific progress overall. And overall is what we care about, right?
Overall, I really liked this program, and still use it even though how much tracking I do varies. Still, I like to flip back on the old journal entries (yes, it has a journal too) and the old weights and remember how much progress I've made and why I started this all in the first place. You know what I mean? It helps to keep it all in perspective, and this little program helped me do that!
Pros: Attractive program, easy to use, lots of practical features.
Cons: Not free (at about $40), can lead to over-focusing on end-dates.
Overall: I like this program a lot. Buy it here.
