Is it normal to feel terrible during induction?

It is not unusual for followers of the Atkins Nutritional Approach to feel pretty badly during the first few days of induction. There a number of reasons for this.

First of all, you are making a significant change in your day to day eating habits, which can be psychologically taxing. Secondly, you are inducing a major adjustment in your metabolism - from carb burning to fat burning.   Finally, if you are following induction strictly, you might have given up all caffeine products.

Caffeine is one of a few physically addictive substances. There is an actual withdrawal process that results in very bad headaches, which are generally gone by the third day. Rather than add this particular symptom to early induction, many simply reduce caffeine consumption. After this initial "detox" period, generally by the second week, most people report a remarkable improvement in terms of energy and well-being - not just improved over early induction, but significantly improved compared to how they felt prior to changing their way of eating.
