Thank You, Dr. Atkins

My name is Redell. I am a 36 (almost 37) wife and mother of one son. My story is typical of so many I have read. I had struggled with weight issues even before I was a teen. I remember the craziest thing I did to try to lose weight was the vegetable oil diet. The idea was to swallow 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil before eating so that the foods would slide on through rather than being absorbed. Needless to say, I didn't lose weight.

I was at my highest weight ever a year and a half ago. I had had some success on a strict low-fat diet a few years before but I didn't look or feel healthy and couldn't stick with it. I knew I needed to do something but I had no idea what. I was almost to the point of surrender. Then I read an article via the AOL sign on screen entitled, "What If Its All A Big Fat Lie", by Gary Taubes. The little information I had gleaned about low carb eating prior to this article was that it was unhealthy for the kidneys among other things. I felt a surge of hope and purchased The New Diet Revolution the next day. The information about cholesterol and insulin resistance made so much sense to me that I began induction immediately.

That was just 18 months ago. I stayed the course through stress and holidays, cheating so infrequently that I could count the times on one hand. I began an exercise regiment that included weight training. I encountered www.lowcarbeating.com and through the help of countless people, learned as much as I could about this lifestyle. I continued to lose pounds and inches over the next 15 months; meeting several of the other goals I had set for myself.

Here are some of my measurable results:

  • 5 feet tall, small frame
  • 186 pounds to 108 pounds
  • Over 64 inches lost (that is more than my height, one foot off my waist alone)!
  • Size 16W to 2-4
  • Great blood work (48 for triglycerides)

Here is a sample of my qualitative results:

  • Increased self-esteem and pride in accomplishing a long-term goal.
  • Improved skin, no more adult acne for me.
  • Regrowth of thinning hair and stronger fingernails.
  • Energy, Energy, and more Energy.
  • A new appreciation for fruits and vegetables.

The best thing about this new world for me is that I can see myself succeeding for the rest of my life. I love the foods that I eat and how they keep my body strong and fit.

Thank You Dr. Atkins!
